ARTundressed Second Tour About to Kick Off

Erotic Signature proudly presents its Second Annual Erotic Art Festival Weekend to Kick-Off the Exhibition Tour of the winners from the 2009 Erotic Art Competition. The Tour starts with the Festival in Downtown Miami, and will then travel to Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Fransisco. 

Each year, Erotic Signature holds a juried competition open to artists from all over the World. Seven (7) prize winners are chosen and awarded $15,000. Also, 200 additional winning images from the competition are selected, and both the prize and the additional images are featured in an annual publication (High-quality Coffee Table Book) entitled: "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today". All the winners are also invited to submit their actual (physical) winning artworks into this annual Erotic Art Exhibition Tour called: ARTundressed. Plus, we also allow the winners to submit a few additional pieces from their collection. Therefore, we guarantee that our exhibition will be first-rate since the art collection is from some of the best talented Erotic Artists in the world.

Gallery prints of my "Beau" the 2009 Fine Art Winner, and "Dream of the Dolphin" a book placement winner will be part of the tour.

New Work & Award Winner: Beau

Like with numerous other species, are males actually the more beautiful sex? Are men peacocks? Despite the fact that our society usually celebrates the aesthetics of the female form over the male, why is it the norm that women wear makeup and perform a myriad of other rituals to look prettier?  If men did the same would they be considered equally beautiful or maybe they don’t because it is just not necessary.  It was this question that lead me to a series of works I’m calling Natural Beauties.  It also opened up the fun idea of very masculine looking men doing typically feminine things.

My first Natural Beauty is “Beau”.

The original is on consigment at the Lyman-Eyer Gallery. While available for purchase, it will remain with the gallery through the end of my upcoming show, the Breathtaking Blue, this July. ….and “Beau” was selected yesterday by the Erotic Signature jurors as the winner in the Fine Art category in their 3rd annual worldwide competition.

It will appear in the “The World’s Greatest Erotic Art of Today Vol. 3” alongside the other category winners, and the top 200 selected entries.  Two of my other recent works, “Dream of the Dolphin” and “Farmhand” were among the top 200 and will also be published in the book.

Images from Berlin

Erotic Signature has sent some photos of the Berlin exhibit of the ARTundressed tour. The works in this tour were published in their books The Worlds Greatest Erotic Art of Today Volumes 1 & 2. I was pretty pleased to see a photo that showed framed prints of my two works Early to Rise (the Viewer's Choice winner) and Business Trip on display.

The exhibit in Berlin has been extended until October 27th, and may go until November 3rd.

Erotic Art Tour Next Stop: Montreal

The next stop on the Art Undressed tour is coming up. August 12-17, Le Conseil Des Art du Québec in conjunction with its cultural event Provocation - Sensualité & Érotisme , and in association with Le Bal Érotique and Erotic Signature will host Art Undressed at the Musee Juste Pour Rire (2100 Saint-Laurent Blvd, Montreal).

The Art Undressed tour features artists whose work have appeared in Erotic Signature's books "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today" volume's 1 & 2. So framed prints of my own "Business Trip" and "Early to Rise" (the viewer's choice award winner) will be on display.

Provocation Sensualité Érotisme is six days of artistic activities on the subject of sensuality and eroticism: Visual Arts; Dance; Erotic Performances and Fashion Shows; authors; composers; emcees; music, videos, films, erotic art exhibition and book launch, audience participation, and much more

I just received notice that my piece "Early To Rise" has won the Viewers Choice Award from Erotic Signature! Thanks to everyone who took the time and cast a vote. The piece will be featured across two pages in the forthcoming "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today Vol. 2".

Not only am I thrilled to have won, but I am hopeful that this will lead to a more balanced representation of masculine works (yes, naked men are erotic too!) in future volumes of the Erotic Signature books and the world of erotic art as a whole.

You can find them in the first row of the Fine Art category, entries 5 and 6. You can only vote for one, so pick your favorite. Despite being open to all sexualities, gay works are under-represented, especially among the award winners. Here's your chance to GAY IT UP!

Erotic Signature Announces Selections for Book

I am very happy with the news that two of my works have been selected to appear in “The Worlds Greatest Erotic Art of Today Volume 2”. “Business Trip” and “Early to Rise” have each earned a spot in the book. Last year “Lathered Up” and “Franco” were selected for Volume 1.

While I am glad to be included I am a bit disappointed that the grand prize winner and the four category winners did not include anything in the homoerotic or male centric genre. The contest claims to be opened to all sexualities. While a handful of the book winners, such as mine, are gay oriented artwork, last years and this years prize winners have not included anything having any slight gay appeal. I must say this year’s winners hardly even fulfill the ‘erotic’ criteria. A nude does not automatically qualify something as erotic.

They will be having a viewer’s choice award, and perhaps with a little help from you we can change that. I will let you know the details when I have them.

Erotic Signature art book is released

I just recieved my complimentary (for being included) collector's edition of "World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today - Vol. I" . I am happy to finally see the completed book. It has been a long time coming. Being the first of it's kind by Erotic Signature explains the numerous delays. The book is the result of a juried competition for erotic artists. It's softbound, 8.5" x 11", 255 pages. The Collector's Editions are numbered upto 1000.

The book is divided into 4 categories: Fine Art, Photography, Digital Art, and Sculpture. The subject matter is varied covering everything in the erotic genre, heterosexual to homosexual. With a wide selection of artists there is a wide range of interpretations too, everything from whimsical to 'brutal'. Browsing through the book and seeing the great works and tremendous variety is inspiring. The one little thing I find a tad disappointing about the Erotic Signature project, were the choice of 'winners' in each category. Sure you might think I am resentful because I didn't win in my category but I am not along in my feelings as artist Marc DeBauch had the same take on the jury's winning choices, which is they are rather 'safe' or cliché in theme. Yes, they are well done works, but the choices did not seem very adventurous. They are all heterosexual in nature, the grand prize winner is a 'Betty Page'-esque all-girl strip poker game photograph. Other winners included a mermaid and a latex/leather clad 'cat-woman'. Luckily that really has no bearing on the book which contains ALL the top entries for everyone to peruse and enjoy.

Profits from the book go to the benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Erotic Signature @ XART in LA

Erotic Signature was invited to showcase the book ("The World’s Greatest Erotic Art of Today") in the XART Gallery at the EROTICA LA Convention. Though they are still awaiting the books from the publisher they did have a mock up copy to display. In their newsletter they said the book was well received and they included a few photos of the event. I was happy to notice that "Franco" was displayed prominently. "Franco" along with "Lathered Up" are two of my works accepted for inclusion in the coffee table collection of erotic art (straight, gay and in between). The books are due to be released very soon, a week or so. I am looking forward to getting my copies.

Book to benefit AIDS Foundation

The membership of Erotic Signature has chosen the Elton John AIDS Foundation as the charity that will benefit from the sale of their upcoming book. It's an excellent choice and I am proud to be part of it. Last December I mentioned that 2 of my works were selected in a juried competition to appear in the book which will be titled "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today". Just so you are aware the book is not just homo-erotic art but erotic art in general. Though predominately heterosexual in content it runs the spectrum from straight to gay and everything in between.

When more details on it's release come available I will let everyone know. If their is interest I may be able to offer it through my website.
