on the drawing board: denim and leather

I've gotten my figures well established.  I'm really trying to capture that Tom of Finland look and get the sexual energy revved up.

The Party of Jesus (The G.O.P.) spends it donation money at a lesbian bondage themed night club in West Hollywood. Can I get an 'Amen'?

In its February financial report filed with the Federal Election Commission, the RNC itemized its disbursements for the month, including:
$53.99 to Staples in Bismarck, N.D., for office supplies.
$123.17 to the Courtyard hotel in Lansing, Mich., for lodging.
$282.01 to Hertz in Dallas for car rental.
$1,946.25 to Voyeur in West Hollywood for, uh, meals.
Meals, huh? And quite a menu they have at Voyeur, according to write-ups in the Los Angeles Times about the new club:
"Impromptu bondage and S&M 'scenes' being played out on an elevated platform by scantily clad performers throughout the night."
Chairs "detailed with the metal hardware and bondage straps of leather fetishists. . . . One with a harness that designer Ted Nemeth calls the Restraint chair."

Google me this..

Here's something disturbing: Go to Google and type in the word 'enticing', then look at the drop down list of suggested searches that appear. I fear that this is a list of the most popular searches....sheesh.

on the drawing board: men of finland

As a gay artist of the male figure myself, the work of Tom of Finland is certainly amongst the most iconic gay images I know. My current endeavor is to capture and celebrate that hyper-masculinity in my own style.  I've chosen a couple of brawny biker boys who enjoy something with a lot of thrust between their legs as my subjects.

Living La Vida Homo

Ricky Martin, who announced he's gay Monday. "I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am," he said in a statement on his Web site. The Latin pop star and adoptive father of two said he decided to write his memoirs a few months ago, a project that freed him "from things I was carrying within me for a long time." Martin said he wasn't sure how the news would affect his career: "It doesn't matter. . . . The word 'happiness' takes on a new meaning for me as of today."

New Release: "Metro Sexual"

One works in construction, the other trades stocks. Both have had a long day, and there's still the lengthy commute home to endure. Different worlds, but parallel lives. Neither has much interest or time for flirting or small talk, they both simply yearn to let off some steam.

The original is available now for purchase through the Lyman-Eyer Gallery, though it must remain with the gallery through the end of my upcoming show this July. Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase at the Special First Day Price through Midnight tomorrow.

Ugly Betty's Justin has his first gay kiss...finally!

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio): Tan Tax singles out GOP, made up mostly of old white guys.

John Boehner (R-Ohio) who was fervently opposed to the health reform bill, must have been so, due to the 10% indoor tanning tax.

If Boehner maintains his attempt to remain darker skinned than President Obama, he may single-handedly pay off the national debt.

on the drawing board: suit & tie

As of late I'd been feeling a bit weighed down by my artwork, pressured by it.  I realize it may have had to do with some of the constraints I imposed on myself regarding subject matter and commitment to a 'themed' show.  So I decided to throw that all out the window (at least for a bit) and just get back to letting unfiltered inspiration guide me.  I had begun a piece featuring a lifeguard, but put that on hiatus to work on something else.  I find it curious how I metaphorically loosened up my 'suit & tie' and ended up creating this piece.

Still a bit more to go but the figures are just about done, and I am having fun again!

Tea Party & The Circus

Mind numbingly stupid? It's shocking to me how easily people have been manipulated by the fear mongering by the health insurance industry and their main mouth piece FOX "News".

While I respect other peoples opinion, that opinion must first respect facts.

Tea Party mantra: Talk loudly, say stupid things, and carry a big stick.

on the drawing board: tank top and pinstripe

What initially began as a simple piece in honor the 75th anniversary of men's briefs, has evolved into something else.  I guess it's just become a part of what I do.  I like to come up with settings, and then in my head, the figures take on personalities, and back stories develop and if it's a couple I need to establish their relationship.  I guess it's all part of my process and it gets me motivated.  I need to somehow get emotionally invested in order to have the drive it requires.

Wedding Bells from D.C. to Mexico City

This week  Washington D.C. and Mexico City saw their first same-sex marriages.  Both cities had earlier passed laws allowing such unions, but the first ceremonies were performed in D.C. on Tuesday and in Mexico city on Thursday.

The Mexican federal government of President Felipe Calderon, a conservative Catholic, filed a challenge to the law last month, arguing that it violates the rights and protections of families and children (how it violates their rights is beyond me). The city's legal advisor, Leticia Bonifaz, said she didn't expect a ruling for a year or more.

In the U.S. last month, Maryland Atty. Gen. Douglas F. Gansler announced that the state, a neighbor to D.C., will recognize same-sex marriages from out of state until the state Legislature or courts decide otherwise.  Conversely D.C.'s other neighbor, the backward state of Virginia, has declared that universities there do not have the right to ban discrimination against GLBT individuals.

Weir Too Gay for Stars on Ice? | News | Advocate.com

Is Johnny Weir too gay for Stars on Ice? According to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, an anonymous source close to the organization says sponsors of the ice skating tour have refused to allow Weir to participate because he is “not family friendly.”

New Release: "Shore Leave"

The colorful history of shore leave began centuries ago when sailing ships made extended ocean voyages possible. When these ships finally made port, the all male crews took the opportunity to indulge all sorts of drinking and debauchery, so much so that often the captains had to find replacement sailors. Even modern navy crews use shore leave as an opportunity to engage is extracurricular activities not afforded them in the close quarters aboard ship.

While the original is available, it is currently on consignment with the Lyman-Eyer gallery through the end of my upcoming show this July. Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase at the Special First Day Price until Midnight ET tomorrow.
