on the drawing board: boo!

Ahh, now that Hurricane Irene has blown through, it's like she took summer with her.  There is quite a chill in the air.  I wasn't sure if it was going to be too soon to start my Halloween piece after I got back from vacation, but the cool dry air has put me in the mood.

"Seasons of Love" Exhibit August 19-31

Thanks to everyone who came out for my exhibit at Lyman-Eyer Gallery!  I had a great time meeting and chatting with everyone.  Thanks to Jim Lyman (with me in the bottom pic) for inviting me to have another solo show as well as doing a wonderful job promoting, hanging, and yes - a good job selling! I also have to give a shout out to Provincetown Magazine for catering the affair!  I had a wonderful night!

Tomorrow!

It's finally here!  I've been working on pieces for my gallery show all year and tomorrow night is the opening reception.  Yeah, I'm a bit nervous.  Mostly because I spend most of the year shying away from meeting people, and the reception is all about the complete opposite.  But it always goes well and once I'm in it, I actually enjoy meeting everyone and really appreciate them coming.

The show runs from August 19-31.

New Release(s): "Out In the Open"

He feels a bit exposed out among the elements, but those elements are his connection to nature, something we are all a part of. Why should he care so much if others might see? That's no way to live! Letting go of those trivial concerns he is overcome with a tremendous sense of freedom. And he realizes, things are so much better out in the open.

Out in the Open is the final piece in my upcoming show, Seasons of Love. I'll be delivering it to the gallery this Friday in time for the reception.

If you are interested in the original you may purchase it through the Lyman-Eyer gallery, but it cannot be delivered until after my show. Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase through BREYETTE.COM at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

Special Print Variant
I originally had a swimsuit on the front figure, but decided that if I'm talking about being out in the open I might as well put it all out there. But before changing the original, I decided I would offer a very limited edition Studio print of Out In the Open (swimsuit variant), also at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

This work marks the second time I'm releasing a "variant" limited edition print. The original depicts a nude male couple taking a shower outdoors, while the variant has the figure in front in a swimsuit.

The first time I did a variant, the work was Leap of Faith, featuring a speedo-clad cliff diver. The variant limited edition print depicted the subject nude.

You Will Rise

Fellow artists Paul Richmond and Linda Regular have this wonderful site called the You Will Rise Project.

Their mission is to provide a multimedia showcase for people of all ages who have been bullied to share their stories through the arts. Submissions can include visual art (paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos, etc.) as well as poetry, song lyrics, short stories, or other creative expressions that best capture their personal experiences.

I was honored when Paul approached me to feature my work "The Bridge".

on the drawing board: stone wall

I've been working on the background.  It contains a few fun, but challenging elements.  Most obvious is the stone wall.  Granted it's easier than a brick wall or something else that has straight lines and a repeating pattern, but it's also being splashed with water which gives me a little extra work.

The stones with just some splashes on, I rendered like all the others and added the dark (wet) areas after.  Those that are predominately wet, I rendered the whole stone using darker colors.

Hillarious.

Even if you're unfamiliar with the show "Pulling", this is the funniest pregnancy test bit I've ever seen.

on the drawing board: look of love... or at least lust.

I always get a boost when I get the faces done, or basically done.  It gives me motivation to get the rest of their world finished and it is a bit of a relief, since it's a key part of the piece, to have them done and be happy with them.

2012 Collectible Calendar Cover Preview

Here is the cover of my 2012 Collectible Calendar.  It is currently at the printers and I'll be making it available as a pre-order very soon.

on the drawing board: the great outdoors

One idea I've had for a long time was to do a scene involving an outdoor shower.  For one reason or another they just name came to fruition.  Well, it looks like I may finally do it.  Here is part of the outline.  I plan to show a little more greenery than you can see here.
