on the drawing board: two to tango

As I fill in the background things start to come a live and I transport myself to an Italian piazza at dusk.  I really try to put myself into my works and hope the moment, the sounds the, the smells, the feeling comes alive for the viewer as well.

on the drawing board: that's amoré

Here is the state of things from a couple days ago.  I got a lot of work done yesterday and will post another update soon.

After the layout in pencil on white paper I transfer the outline in white pastel pencil onto a suitable colored pastel paper.   From then on its pastel chalks and pencils and fingers.  I also keep a few erasers handy to clean up edges and of course to fix mis-steps along the way.

CA Keeps Existing Same-Sex Marriages, Will Civilization Crumble?

When the California Supreme court ruled on Tuesday to uphold Propostion 8 banning same-sex marriages, they also ruled that the 18,000 gay and lesbian unions that took place while it was legal will remain valid.

So apparently these same-sex marriages have been deemed harmless to the State and the institution of marriage, prevent no threat to opposite sex marriages and will not bring about the collapse of Chrisianity and all of civilization.

By keeping valid these existing marriages, the court has clearly illustrated that Prop 8 is purely an act of sexual discrimination.  Perhaps this will actually be fuel for overturning this heinous ammendment.

Roxette - "Silver Blue"

One of the best pop bands ever.

on the drawing board: dancing duo

Spending so much time lately on framing for my show, getting ready for Creative Block and working on a commission (that I had to keep under wraps), it seems like forever since I've posted in progress pics of what I am working on.  I'm looking forward to escaping into this one.  I guess my paintings are my way of leaving the real world behind and taking a little journey.

ARTundressed Second Tour About to Kick Off

Erotic Signature proudly presents its Second Annual Erotic Art Festival Weekend to Kick-Off the Exhibition Tour of the winners from the 2009 Erotic Art Competition. The Tour starts with the Festival in Downtown Miami, and will then travel to Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Fransisco.

Each year, Erotic Signature holds a juried competition open to artists from all over the World. Seven (7) prize winners are chosen and awarded $15,000. Also, 200 additional winning images from the competition are selected, and both the prize and the additional images are featured in an annual publication (High-quality Coffee Table Book) entitled: "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today". All the winners are also invited to submit their actual (physical) winning artworks into this annual Erotic Art Exhibition Tour called: ARTundressed. Plus, we also allow the winners to submit a few additional pieces from their collection. Therefore, we guarantee that our exhibition will be first-rate since the art collection is from some of the best talented Erotic Artists in the world.

Gallery prints of my "Beau" the 2009 Fine Art Winner, and "Dream of the Dolphin" a book placement winner will be part of the tour.

Swine Flu or Sweeps Flu?

Not to deny it's potential harm, but how much of the Swine Flu outbreak threat is real and how much is media hype?

Considering on average, 20,000 people die  in the U.S. from the flu annually, and only 1 U.S. fatality has been attributed to the current H1N1 flu strain outbreak, is the constant barrage and news breaking  interruptions, about it a real cause for alarm or are the news networks trying to keep you scared...and tuned in?

On April 24th, NBC Nightly News (and others) began with a report about a deadly flu outbreak in Mexico City. Coincidentally, on April 23rd, Neilsen Media Research began it's data collection for what is typically referred to as May Sweeps, upon which broadcasters set their advertising rates.

So even though most U.S. swine flu cases have been mild, so far, and most swine flu patients have recovered without being hospitalized, expect TV news to exploit it for all it's worth.  At least until May Sweeps end on the 20th.

GM Ditches Pontiac

Pontiac, a brand whose products fired the imagination of enthusiasts of traditional American muscle cars, such as the GTO I used in my piece Blowout, has come to an end. General Motors said Monday it will discontinue the brand as part of its consolidation effort.  The Pontiac GTO is considered by many the first true muscle car. Other illustrious Pontiac models of yore included Bonneville, LeMans, and Firebird.
