Save Ugly Betty - Now Sing Bitch!

ABC has announced it is canceling the enormously entertaining and witty "Ugly Betty".  The show will finish out it's 4th season this April.  If you're a fan of the show, which has consistently been one of the funniest and was named the best comedy series 2 years in a row, with praise for its handling of gay and transgender issues at the GLAAD Awards, take a sec and sign the petition to save the show.

New Release: "Masterpieces"

With my latest work I thought it would be interesting to ponder the duality of masterpieces. Throughout history there have been countless magneficient works created by talented artisans, but they are still only replicas, tributes to the flawless physiques that inspired them.

Masterpieces will be a part of my upcoming show in Provincetown, MA this summer. If you are interested in purchasing the original, please contact the Lyman-Eyer Gallery. Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase at www.breyette.com at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

Stop the flood of corporate money into our democracy

Yesterday, the Supreme Court announced a disastrous rollback of campaign finance laws. Their 5-4 decision gives corporations free rein to spend unlimited amounts of money on elections.

It's a horrible decision. But we can undo some of the damage if Congress passes public financing of elections, which would give progressives and populists who don't have industry backing the ability to compete.

Can you sign the petition urging Congress to move quickly to pass public financing of elections?

A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to Congress.

"We the Slaves of the United Corporations of Americ..."

American democracy died a little more today as the Republican dominated Supreme Court voted to lift the limit a corporation can donate to a politcal candidate.  Corporations rule (and are ruining) this country.  Behind every problem we're facing from war to obesity, health care to global warming you'll find a corporation, and the GOP is their political arm.

"With a stroke of the pen, five justices wiped out a century of American history devoted to preventing corporate corruption of our democracy," declared Fred Wertheimer, president of the Washington-based government-watchdog group Democracy 21.

"The First Amendment protects more than just the individual on a soapbox and the lonely pamphleteer," wrote the court in its 5-4 decision.

However, it's quite certain that the founding fathers wrote the Constitution with the liberties of the individual in mind.  It does not read "We the Corporations of the United States of America", it's "We the People".  They did not intend a corporation to be able to spend billions of dollars to get their own puppet elected.

on the drawing board: hands on

When it came to composing this picture I decided to only show part of Michelangelo's David. I gave it some thought and concluded that it had to be his right hand, next to the face it's probably the most definitive part of the statue.

This picture is quite 'hand' centric and for me rendering hands are perhaps even more challenging that faces.; they have all those little creases and visible veins, not too mention the myriad of angles.

on the drawing board: statuesque

I've always wondered if Michelangelo's David was based on a model.  I doubt he actually had someone pose for him during the entire 3 years of it's creation, but  I thought I'd let my imagination have a crack at what a moment with the master and model might have been like.
