Act to save the Free Press

The wise founders of this country knew the importance of free speech and a free press. There is no democracy if the news and media is controlled by one voice, whether it be the government or a single corporation. The FCC has had a long time ban on the number and nature of news outlets that can be controlled by a single company.

Today FCC head Kevin Martin along with two Republican commissioners lifted that restriction giving big media corporations the ability to swallow up the voices of independent news outlets.

Imagine a nation where the only news is the biased republican propaganda that FOX News spews forth.... scary...or the 'celebri-news' and 'infotainment' that was once the domain of Access Hollywood but is now featured on 'serious' news programs.

The FCC ignored widespread public opposition to the lifting of this ban, despite the fact that they are to serve the best interest of us, the citizens and not mega corporations (which is the unfortunate trend in all aspects of our government).

Take just moment to sign this open letter to Congress and STOP BIG MEDIA.

On the Drawing Board: Heating up

After taking a few days off to rest and recoup from a nasty cold, I got back to work on my sexy fireman. I filled in some of the background and spent some more time of his hair. I've taken it from a very short buzz cut to slightly longer. I think this helps me to make it look sweaty. I want it to look like he's just taken of his hot fire hat and his hair is drenched and messed up.

Tell Congress to Stop Big Media

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is rushing through plans to remove decades-old media ownership protections. And he's trying to do it without public scrutiny.

Senators Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) and Trent Lott (R-Miss.) have introduced groundbreaking bipartisan legislation that would hold the FCC accountable and put the people ahead of Big Media. Letters like this — millions of them — stopped media consolidation in 2003. Send a letter to your Senators and tell everyone you know.

On the Drawing Board: face the fire

Here's my latest. I am doing a piece for a friend, a commission of sorts. Firemen get him hot under the collar, so that is what he's requested. The face challenged me at first. I had a hard time finding the right expression. I wasn't exactly sure of how I wanted him to look, but knew I didn't like what I was coming up with. After much tweaking and erasing, and even completely erasing the face I had I finally figured out that I wanted him to look fatigued and embattled from fighting a fire yet subtly triumphant, not cocky.

The "swimmers" video

After posting the eye candy filled video of the 'swimmers', I got several inquiries from guys yearning to know what the heck it was and where it came from. Well, after a bit of clever Googling.. it's scenes from the 2003 Australian movie "Swimming Upstream", starring Jesse Spencer in the life story of Tony Fingleton. The movie saw limited release in the U.S. in 2005.

In anticipation of more questions... Jesse Spencer: born 1979 in Melbourne Australia, currently seen as Dr. Robert Chase in "House M.D.".

Swimmers

Vile.

(not worthy of the title) President Bush has been steadily moving closer to war with Iran. But a stunning new intelligence report shows that Iran shut down its nuclear weapons program in 2003, and Bush has known for months. Today Bush claims he only just found out, which contradicts National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley who said Bush was first told in August or September about intelligence indicating Iran had halted its weapons program. Bush is a liar. Bush is repeating his lies and tactics of causing fear among the American people to support a war he knows in unjustified. This perpetual use of fear is Terrorism 101.

Of course, Congress who have not acted on the fact that Bush knowingly deceived them and the nation regarding the pretense to invading Iraq by initiating impeachment are equally culpable for whatever is to come.

I am by no means a fan of Iran (especially being gay and all) just in case you fall for the FOX News jingoism that unless you support Bush and the Republicans you're an Iranian sympathizer or a terrorist. What Bush is doing has nothing to do with any policies or atrocities carried out by the government of Iran same as with Iraq, this is about a President not only choosing war as his first option but asking young men and women to die for their country while lying to their faces when doing it. The man is vile.

Bodies in Motion

This weekend Edward and I went into Boston for a performance of the Paul Taylor Dance Company. I don't know much about dance and 'don't get' what each segment is about but I do enjoy watching the grace and muscular beauty of the dancers; with the men in tights you get to appreciate every curve. The show had a nice dose of energetic and even humorous dances to keep us casual patrons entertained.

Playing Dress Up
