New Painting & Prints: "Crawl Into Bed"

It's something we do every day, we almost take it for granted, and we're usually looking forward to it. Because too often it follows one of those days where nothing seemed to go right, there was non-stop chaos, and it felt like the day was never going to end. But other times, it's because we know a special treat awaits when we Crawl into Bed.

As you can tell from my latest work, Crawl into Bed, I continue to enjoy expressing a more erotic side to my artwork.

The original as well as limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase at the special day of release pricing through Midnight ET tomorrow.

on the drawing board: back to work

My last work was a full frontal so I've done a 180 and am doing a full backal? ..dorsal? ...rectal???  What ever it's called I'm looking forward to diving in.

New Painting: "Long Hard Day"

Stripping off the clothes, pouring a beer or cocktail, planting the ass in the favorite chair, or slipping into a hot bath... there are a multitude of indulgences we partake in to relieve the stress of a Long hard day.

The Original, as well as limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available at the special day of release pricing through Midnight ET tomorrow.

on the drawing board: a close erection

Here is a quick shot of what I'm working on, though I'm not showing the whole piece.  It's been a while since I've done a full frontal with an erection.  While I don't think it's required that one needs to show erections to be considered an erotic artist, people do tend to put me in that category and though I haven't featured them often I'm more than happy to celebrate that part of the masculine mystique.

New Work: "Russian Winter"

The term Russian winter is often used to describe situations of prolonged dreariness, bitter cold, and extreme hardship. And yet, people endure. Within themselves they discover a secret strength. Or perhaps there is some reward that makes it all worthwhile, like bracing the snow and winter winds just to share a warming kiss.

After surviving many dreary decades under Soviet oppression, Russians are experiencing a new wave of anti-protest and anti-gay laws that seem poised to send their liberties and new freedoms back into the deep freeze. But love can't be stopped by the laws of small minded men no more than it can be stopped by the force of a Russian Winter

The original, as well as limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available at the special day of release pricing through Midnight ET tomorrow.

New Release: "Sleigh Bells"

It's Christmas Eve and you're snowed in. Luckily you've got hot cocoa, a crackling fire and someone special to keep you warm, so you don't really mind that it's your turn to fetch more logs outside. Hearing a distant jingle, you look up into the moonlit sky and see a magically, wonderful site...

Limited Edition prints and greeting cards of "Sleigh Bells" are available from breyette.com

on the drawing board: the under beard

My method of doing beards is to fill in the area with the appropriate dark colors and shading first, then add the individual hairs on top of that.  Don't try to add hairs on top of regular skin tones, like the rest of the face. Of course this is for faces that are large enough on the paper where the hairs would be discernible.

on the drawing board: just a kiss

Not a lot going on in this pic so there's not much I can show without giving the whole image away.  What's got me excited about this piece is rendering the effects I have in mind that will give it a slightly different look.  But that's not really something I can show until it's done.

New Release: "Ghouls Gone Wild"

Each with a devilish grin, they knew it was time to take a bite out of this Hallowe'en party. The vampire had been wanting to sink his teeth into his handsome mummy all night. Time to make a move and see if he could raise the dead. A little tug here, a little unwrapping there, and long before dawn they were both a couple of ghouls gone wild. After all, getting undressed for Hallowe'en can sometimes be more fun than getting dressed up for it!

Ghouls Gone Wild is my first post-show work. In addition to the Original, limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase at the special day of release pricing through Midnight ET tomorrow.

on the drawing board: back from the dead

I know, it's been quite some time since my last post.  I was in the scramble to finish pieces for my solo exhibit, then preparing for it, then just needed some down time.  Well now I'm back and it seems fitting that the piece I'm starting, after more than a month away from the drawing board, features a mummy (well a hot guy dressed as a mummy) a creature that returns to life after a long dry spell.  Of course this is also my Halloween piece.

New Release: "Summers At the Lake"

Ever since they were little, the boys had reunited each summer up at the lake, their families both having places there. From July through August, they would venture through the woods, camping out, canoeing, and of course getting into a bit of mischief. Now all grown up, they still manage to steal away, leaving all their cares behind as they partake one of their few long standing traditions, a refreshing skinny dip during summers at the lake.

The original will be in my upcoming show, Under the Sun at the Lyman-Eyer Gallery. While it is available for immediate purchase, it must remain with the gallery through the end of August.

Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available through BREYETTE.COM at the special day of release price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

on the drawingboard: summer lake memories

Since I moved to Massachusetts 15 years ago, I get to the ocean at least a few times each summer.  But I grew up near the Adirondack Mountains of New York and Lake Champlain.  Back then, summer meant going to the lake.  While the ocean is fun, there is something special about summer spent at a lake.  The forest comes right to it's edge, which often means you can camp right beside it.  The water isn't salty, and is much calmer, not to mention that compared to the Northern Atlantic, the water can be very warm (actually enjoyable!). Fortunately I have friends who have a cabin on a lake in Maine, so I still get to have that special summer by the lake experience.  Something that I wanted to capture in this latest piece I'm working on.  Of course I've added my own 'cheeky' spin to it!

New Release: "Austin"

The life of a cowboy means having to deal with the elements and being prepared for what Mother Nature might throw at you next. Austin likes to keep an eye on the sky and plan his day accordingly, making sure it's a good time for a lunch break, a siesta, or a roll in the hay. This cowboy does not like getting caught with his pants down.

While the original is available for immediate purchase through the Lyman-Eyer Gallery, it must stay with the gallery through the end of my upcoming show, Under the Sun.

Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available through BREYETTE.COM at the special day of release price through Midnight ET tomorrow July 4th.

Bruno Gmunder Call For Art

Publisher Bruno Gmunder is having a call for artists to submit work for their upcoming anthology "C.U.M.". The title is a 'heads up' on it's theme.  The subject is not exactly my forté when it comes to art, so I'll be sitting this one out.  But I know there are artists out there that explore the more explicit side of the male and this is a good chance for recognition.  For more visit: http://www.brunogmuender.com/news/bruno-gmunder-is-proud-to-announce-a-new-call-for-submissions/

on the drawing board: cowboy up!

I'm not sure why, but throw a cowboy hat on a guy and he's sure to get a second glance.  I certainly have a good 'ole time whenever I express the cowboy in me on paper.  And though I've painted many men in many situations, (the number of speedo/beach scenes must be up to a few dozen by now) it seems the cowboy pieces are what sticks in many peoples minds when thinking of my work.

New Release: "Bath Time"

After an active day at the park, an adventure through the woods, or frolicking at the beach, a good long sudsy soak is both a necessary and gratifying undertaking for a dog and his boy.

Bath Time is the latest work in my upcoming show, Under the Sun. While the original is available for immediate purchase, it will remain with the Lyman-Eyer gallery through the end of my show in August.

Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available at the special day of release price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

on the drawing board: keeping it moving

With my solo exhibit just about 2 months away there's no time to rest.  Luckily I'm sometimes able to cultivate an idea for my next painting while I'm finishing up my current one.

I don't want to give too much away so here's just a small portion of the whole sketch.

New Release: "Suited For Each Other"

What draws you together initially might be physical attraction, but as you share your thoughts and stories you may find that you're more than just physically compatible. Once you discover that you're ultimately suited for each other, it's time to set the date to get Suited for Each Other.

Suited for Each Other is the latest piece in my upcoming show, Under the Sun. While the original is available for immediate purchase, it must remain with the Lyman Eyer gallery through the end of my show in August.

Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints can be purchased directly from BREYETTE.COM at the special first day price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

on the drawing board: something sweet

After two full frontals in a row and a good majority of the works I've done so far this year featuring mostly naked men, I found myself in the mood for something a little sweet.  Cake anyone?

New Release: "Hung"

Kissed by the sun and caressed by a gentle breeze, it will softly swing back and forth all day long, even enduring a good stiff gust if it's well hung.

Hung is my latest work to be a part of my upcoming show Under the Sun this August at the Lyman-Eyer Gallery in Provincetown, MA. While the original is available for purchase, it must remain with the gallery through the end of my show.

Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available through BREYETTE.COM at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

My work included in "Cock Tales" anthology

The latest hot & sweaty anthology from publisher Bruno Gmunder, "Cock Tales" focuses on the male member.
I'm flattered to have my pastel paintings included among the great fine art and photographic artists.

One of my works that is in the books is "Jocks".  The original is available for purchase from my website, as well as limited edition prints of it.

on the drawing board: sunny and in the 70's

I 've gotten much of the work on the face done, here in this in progress photo.  My friend Mark says, " it's looking kind of 70's ish."  I take that as a good thing.  I've always liked having a tinge of retro in my works.

on the drawing board: domestic god

I've always incorporated nature into many of my works, but of late (the past few years) I've become aware, and then more deliberate, of giving a nod to the environment and our connection to and hopefully preservation of it.  You can see it in works like "Buck", "Bare In the Woods", "Encounter", and especially "Melt".  Sexy men are still at the core of my work but having a domestic god trade in the electric dryer for a clothesline is my subtle nod to mother nature...and gives new ideas to the phrase 'hung out to dry.'

North Carolina's Straight Supremacists re-instate discrimination into consitution

Voters in North Carolina amended their state constitution on Tuesday, to make the marriage of 1 man and 1 woman the only legally recognized civil union.

The last time the states bigots altered the constitution was 1875 when they banned interracial marriage between blacks and whites.  It was eventually removed, 96 years later.

Those who ban marriage equality fall into the same trash heap as the KKK, neo-NaZi's and any other group that denies rights and equality in order to gain a sense of superiority.  They try to deflect their bigotry behind unsubstantial reasons like religion or tradition, but it simply comes down to the fact they need to feel they are better than someone else.  They are straight supremacists.

New Release: "Memento"

He found them the next morning. They were blue, much like the sea to which his sailor had been bound to return. Had they been left in haste? Or as a deliberate reminder, perhaps even as a promise to return? Whichever it happened to be, their sight, feel and scent meant they would forever be a cherished memento.

While the original is available for purchase, it will remain with the Lyman-Eyer gallery through the end of my upcoming show in August. Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for immediate purchase at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow May 9, 2012.

Hey art galleries, suppliers are just as important as buyers

Getting your work shown in a gallery has been and will always will be a challenge.  But I don't understand why there is still so much mystique about approaching a gallery.  Not only is it a challenge to get shown by a gallery it's often a challenge just to get the courtesy of a rejection from a gallery.

The art market has changed a lot over the past 10-15 years with the rise of the internet.  Artists can put up a website and potentially expose their work to millions of potential buyers.  Heck, that's how I began and still earn much of my income. But galleries are still important to artists, as artists are crucial to galleries.   There is a great advantage to being represented by a gallery.  Your work reaches people who might not consider searching the web for art, and very importantly it allows buyers to see the work in person.  There is also the cachet one earns by being able to add "gallery representation" to ones resumé.

While the internet has been helpful to artists, I think many galleries see it as a threat for the very same reasons. But just as there is also a downside to the internet for artists (image stealing, bootlegging etc.) there is an upside for galleries.  They can also now reach millions of potential buyers beyond just those that walk into their show rooms.

Another thing they can do, which I don't often see, and is the point of this posting, is attract artists. Yet, galleries seem to have a notorious reputation for putting up an obstacle course for artists.  It's as if they put themselves on a mountain top to make themselves unattainable and therefore more desirable.  Of course this is not true of all galleries, and I personally have had very good experiences and relationships with some.  That idea of being difficult and unapproachable doesn't really work so much anymore, when today, artists have other options...like the aforementioned personal online galleries.

I think of it like this, if you had a gourmet food store wouldn't you want to discover and sell the most exotic and unique products that fit your style?  Wouldn't you then want to make it easy for the food makers to show you their products so you can have the best selection in your store and make your store THEE go to place for your type of gourmet food?  Why wouldn't a gallery use this same approach?

If a gallery does have a website, they could provide artists guidelines on what they are looking for, the best way to submit a portfolio to them and tips on what they'd like to see in it? Or at least provide contact information to a person who will answer questions or peruse their submission and respond back.  Suppliers of what you're selling are just as important as the buyers.  You wouldn't make a buyer jump through hoops to make a purchase or ignore inquiries from buyers?  You should treat the suppliers, the artists, the same as a buying customer.  You could be turning away a hot new discovery or ignoring an artist who has been successful in one part of the country and is now looking to expand to another market.

Galleries should be cultivating and building stronger relationships with artists not alienating them. The internet is not going away, use it's positives rather than cursing it's negatives.

New Release: "Lust In Translation"

Taking a trip abroad can be an amazing experience, and today our tech gadgets make it easier and easier. Our devices give us direction, advise us where to eat and even interpret foreign languages. But once in awhile when you have a question of travel, just ask a local. You might not understand his native tongue but the encounter might be, lust in translation.

Lust in Translation is the latest work that will be a part of my upcoming show, Under the Sun.

While the original is available for immediate purchase from the Lyman-Eyer Gallery, it cannot be delivered until after my show.

Limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available through BREYETTE.COM at the special first day price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

I Won A Gaybie Award!

Wowzers, I won a Gaybie Award for Best Photo/Art Book for "Seasons of Love"! Also congrats to all the other winners of the 2012 TLA Gaybies

I find it particularly rewarding that "Seasons of Love" won Best Photo/Art book from TLA voters, when male erotica publishers have been shying away from art books, preferring to go with the more tried and true sellers, photography books.

Thanks to all the guys from Bruno Gmünder, particularly those who made the book possible: Joris, Stephan, Simeon, and Henning! Thanks to TLA and everyone who voted.  (I didn't even know it was nominated.)

on the drawing board: one moment please

My last piece "Melt" was a bit more metaphoric.  My current piece swings me back to my little 'slice of life' scenes.  I love capturing little moments that are seemingly mundane but tender or romantic in some way. Those, to me, seem like life's treasured moments, that out shine the big flashy events.

on the drawing board: itinerary

I've begun work on my next pastel painting.  This is a section of my outline.  This is where I lay it all out, or try to anyway. It's my map for the picture.  From here I'll transfer this outline using white pastel pencil onto colored pastel paper.

on the drawing board: finger painting

I don't often post in progress pics showing areas that I haven't blended with my fingers yet.  But here's a shot that clearly shows the sky in the background hasn't gotten the finger treatment yet, compared to the face that I've already been blending and smoothing with my digits.
