It's been quite awhile since I've worked in oils but I remember always struggling with clouds and skies.  It's so much easier for me using pastels.  It's the perfect example of why I prefer them. I don't have wait for the sky to dry to put the clouds in and not mix and muddy up the blue but in other areas where I want to blend wispy clouds into the blue sky I can because pastels are always workable.
