1. the practice of making accusations or insinuations of anti-patriotism, esp. of being characterized as un-American, in many instances unsupported by proof or based on slight, doubtful, or irrelevant evidence. Similar to mccarthyism.
2. an unsubstantiated statement that is meant to pander to peoples sense of patriotism by inferring an opposing individual or group is less patriotic than themselves.
