Something else I've been working on simultaneously is a commissioned piece. It's intended to be the poster for a play. This is my third attempt to capture what the client wants, so I am not sure I want to keep on trying so this may not develop.
I've had an experience like this before. The client lays out the basic concept to me, and leads me to believe I have some creative input, but in reality they have a very specific idea of what they want. Perhaps it's a control issue, which makes it difficult, because I need some leeway to do my job.
While I do try to plan my pictures before I start on what will be the finished, I often think of things after I've begun that hadn't occurred to me. For instance giving this farm hand a 'farmer's tan'. It's one of those 'duh' moments when I realize how perfect and obvious it should have been.
The days are short, the air chilled, everything green is buried under several inches of white, and you're feeling gray. This is a northern winter. Are the days of stepping outside, shedding all your clothes and slipping into warm blue water just a faded summer memory? Not at all. Enjoy a little northern exposure, get out, get naked, get wet, and stay warm!

There is an allure of rural open spaces and farmland for me, I guess it reminds me of growing up. I didn't live on a farm but was surrounded by them. That's the inspiration for the setting for the latest piece I have on my drawing board.
Well after quite a few web searches, test drives, and haggles, I think I've found my car. It's a 2004 Subaru Outback L.L. Bean edition. I've put a deposit down, and if all goes well, I'll pick it up Monday afternoon or Tuesday.
