on the drawing board: finger painting

I don't often post in progress pics showing areas that I haven't blended with my fingers yet.  But here's a shot that clearly shows the sky in the background hasn't gotten the finger treatment yet, compared to the face that I've already been blending and smoothing with my digits.

It seems my pieces evolve on two fronts.  There is the vision, in the literal sense, the 'what it's going to look like' and then their is the idea, the emotion, the motivation, the comment I am expressing.  These two seem to work in tandem, often one taking the lead over the other.  Sometimes the seed comes from the vision other times from the idea.  It's my conscious vs. my subconscious. When it comes from the vision I analyze it to find out why it appeals to me why this is something that I am driven to create.  When I have an idea first I have to create a piece around, and that can sometimes be more of a challenge.  There are times when my idea might not be something you'd easily associate with my  forté of handsome naked men.  But when I manage to come up with a way to do it, it's very satisfying.

New Release: "Ascension"

No matter how big the challenge, how insurmountable the obstacle, it seems like it is human nature to persevere and find a way to overcome whatever stands in our way. We acquire the knowledge, we learn the skills, and we summon our strength to climb the proverbial mountains before us. We may falter and fall along the way, but eventually we reach that pinnacle. We succeed in our Ascension.

I admit it, I love pairing up sexy men with water scenes in my art. Whether it's a lockerroom shower, a relaxing sauna, a day at the beach, or as with my latest work Ascension, climbing a waterfall.

on the drawing board: water challenge

Water has so many properties and different traits.  It can be reflective, transparent, turbulent, still, flowing etc.  So sometimes it can be a fun and easy thing to render other times it can be very difficult.  I think I encountered both extremes in this one picture.  I hope to have it finished by next week!
