Day of Issue: "Coasting"

You can put a lot of effort into your journey, plan every detail, figure it all out and try not to veer from your course. But sometimes you need to just let go, forget it all, and let life carry you along as you enjoy the moment, the freedom, and just let things happen. And who knows whom you might meet in those moments when you're just Coasting.

I was very intrigued with expression on the passenger's face in this picture, and wanted him to be the main focus of the work. This led me to render everything else a tad out-of-focus.

The original as well as limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase. The Day of Issue Sale is on through Midnight Friday September 26.

On The Drawing Board: Fright Night

Hard to believe summer is over, officially and everything. That means fall is here and it also means I'm in the mood for Halloween. Here's my rough sketch for this years. Since I've done a demon and a werewolf previously, it's time for a vampire.

Art Undressed Arrives in Berlin

The Beate Uhse Erotica Museum Berlin will be hosting the international exhibition “ARTundressed” presented by Erotic Signature. This exhibition of contemporary erotic art will open with a private viewing on 19 September and run until 18 October. Germany’s only Erotica Museum will thus be the third stop in the tour of ARTundressed, following its opening in Miami in May and its visit to Montreal.

The Beate Uhse Erotik-Museum is entirely devoted to the art and history of sex. It attracts many visitors each year and is now in the top five of Berlin's most visited museums.

Two of my framed prints will be on display along with other works published in Erotic Signature's "The World's Greatest Erotic Art of Today" books, volumes 1 and 2.

On The Drawing Board: Up Close

It's so nice to have a large face to work on. Being able to really add in the multitude of colors in just the lips alone is a joyful change of pace. I can use my fingers more rather than scratch them in with a pencil.

On The Drawing Board: Riding in Cars With Boys

It's been awhile since I've done a piece with a face that's as big or bigger than life. It's a nice change of pace and very different than working on a face that's only 3 to 4 inches high. A face has so many subtleties that when working on something small, the slightest change in a line or rub of a finger can drastically change the expression.

I am toying with the idea of blurring the background and to a degree all the other elements that are behind the primary figure in order to put even more focus on him...I'll see where it takes me.

Tight Whitey Car Wash in San Francisco

The newest addition to the Tighty Whitey Car Wash fundraising events is Barechest.org's benefit for the AIDS Emergency Fund / Breast Cancer Emergency Fund.

Event organizer J.R. Anderson told me, "Funny thing.... All the posters get ripped down as soon as they are put up! True sign that people love that image!"

Here's to wishing them good weather and much success!

The Barechest.org Tighty Whitey Car Wash in San Francisco CA, is Sunday September 14th from Noon to 6PM on 18th St. between Castro and Collingwood.

MS Challenge Walk 'Sole' Survivors

We did it! Through blisters, sore toes, sore legs, wind, rain, humidity, hot sun, we completed the 3 days, 50 mile MS Challenge Walk 08!

Thank you to those individuals who took the time and gave a donation on my behalf. I truly appreciate it.

Congrats to all the members of Keep on Dancing, our team. Jenny, her mom Sheila, her sisters Danielle and Mary Ellen, and Edward and myself walked up and down Cape Cod and along with all the rest of the particpants, over 500 walkers and 500 volunteers we raised $1.5 Million to assist those stricken with Multiple Sclerosis and to fund research for a cure.

New Work: Vers la Vie Nocturne

It’s been a long hard day and he’s been burdened by its demands. He’s ready to make some demands of his own. He needs action and release. Nothing will keep him from his destination, not even a downpour. He made his way across the city of light as every raindrop washed away his façade as the proper business man. He feels alive again in his element. He needs to get away from the structure of the day and submerge himself into the nightlife, vers la vie nocturne.

Full size limited edition gallery, limited edition studio, and open edition portfolio prints are available for purchase through my website. The Day of Issue sale is on until around Midnight ET September 5, 2008.

Eye of the Ego

Alan Ilagan is putting it all on display...er well not all of it but many of his beautiful photographs of the natural world in which he lives as well as Alan au naturel are on view at his upcoming show.

The Eye of the Ego
is Alan's solo debut exhibit of his photography. His images are predominately focused on two subjects. One of which is his interpretation of nature. He takes the mundaneness of a dew covered leaf or dripping icicle and captures it with as much vivaciousness as his intense floral studies and compositions. The other focus of his work is a flower of another sort, the eye pleasing and intriguing artist himself in a variety of dress and undress. Having done a painting of a Speedo clad Alan myself, I can say that both subjects appeal to the artistic eye.

The Eye of the Ego begins this Friday September 5th, 5PM at the Romaine Brooks Gallery in Albany NY, as part of Albany's 1st Friday art event. If you're in the area, show Alan some love and stop by.

Collectible Calendars

Skimming around on Amazon the other day, I saw that 2 (third party) sellers were offering my Summer Moved On 2008 Calendar for sale. I was very surprised by how much they were asking. I guess since the 2008 calendar was published last year and is surely out of print, it's a bit of a collector's item already. Though $54.29 for a used one and $117.51 for a new one is quite amazing.

So I guess I should mention that my 2009 Calendar is out now. I am signing and selling 250 copies through my website at the suggested retail price of $15.95 and about 100 of those are already gone. I think I'll put a few away for safe keeping, might need them for my retirement!
