New Release: "Young Turks"

It's abruptly calming and still, a stark contrast from the frenetic city streets outside. The air hangs heavy with the smells of minerals, the central pool filled to the edge with comforting warm water. The only sounds are the raining down from a distant shower chamber and low muffled male voices murmuring under the domed ceiling. Shafts of light pierce into the steamy sanctum. The men here have left everything behind in the outside world, their worries, obligations, inhibitions, even clothes. It's an ancient tradition shared with the Young Turks.

I recently got back from a trip to Prague and Budepest. And while I hadn't originally planned on visiting the Turkish baths, the experience certainly inspired me.

The original as well as limited edition prints are available for purchase at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow.

Book release, book cover art

A new book from MLRPress features my piece "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" as the cover art.

You can get "Honorable Silence", a collection of military themed gay romance short stories from MLRPress.com

And of course limited edition prints of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" are available from breyette.com.

Our men and women in uniform sacrifice daily to serve our country. But what about the additional, voluntary sacrifice that each gay person in the military makes daily when they don their uniform? We ask these men and women to not only serve their country but serve in silence and denial, sacrificing not only their physical lives but their emotional ones too by denying them their right to love. Four talented authors weave tales that describe how living a lie pulls at the hearts and souls of good servicemen, whose only desire is to do their duty to their country...honorably. In AFTERBURNER, two fighter pilots let their hearts soar despite regulations. THE LOSS OF INNOCENCE STORE provides a glimpse into the U.S. Army prior to the institutionalization of Don't Ask Don't Tell. A sniper and infantryman find that love eases the pain of being forsaken in FORSAKE NOT. And STRATEGIC MANEUVERS reveals the intricate steps that can lead to love while in uniform.

on the drawing board: nobody's business but the Turks

Even though it's in the lower right section of the picture, I'm working on the face first.  Faces are usually the keystone to my pieces and though I try to work from upper left to lower right to avoid smudging what I've already done, I need to get the face right to lock in the mood and storyline of the picture.

I'm striving to give him that Turkish/Middle Eastern look.

on the drawing board: thermal inspiration

I got some inspiration on my recent vacation.  We visited the historic thermal baths in Budapest.  Built by the Turks in the 1560's, Kiraly Bath has a large octagonal pool under a dome, men only days and yes some gay cruising (and more) going on.  I wonder if those activities along with the public bathing tradition are carried down from the Turks as well.

New Release: "Toymaker"

Mickey was different from the other elves in the workshop, he had a little more creative flair. He never was content assembling the same old kids toys day after day, year after year. He had a passion for something else, a dream to make toys of another sort. After all why shouldn't adults have toys of their own to play with?

The original, as well as limited edition Gallery and Studio prints, are available for purchase at the Special First Day Price through Midnight ET tomorrow.
