On The Drawing Board: Angelic Faces

I'm trying to infuse that angelic Renaissance look you find in religious artwork. I think it's coming along.

On The Drawing Board: Warm Embrace

A busy week and a few false starts, I think I finally have the design for my next piece. It's an idea that I have toyed with for over a year. After hearing the news that we are going to be 'blessed' next month by a certain visitor, I couldn't help but do something in his 'honor'. Just hope I don't burn in hell for it.
~take care.

Lord of the Delgates

The Clinton vs. Obama race goes middle earth.

I love photoshop!

Disclaimer: This satire is not meant as an endorsement for any candidate. But please - no McCain!

UPDATE: I've turned off 'comments'. I did not want this to turn into a forum for bickering between Obama and Clinton supporters, despite my disclaimer, we (I) don't need anymore of that.

I was just thinking about how historical and amazing that a black man and a woman are our choices for president. Which for some reason I associated with one of my favorite lines from "Lord of the Rings".

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter all!

Thought I'd share this funny take on easter eggs I received from UK comic strip artist David Shenton. I love Alien and chocolate!

Check out more of his strips at www.dscomics.co.uk.

New Work: "Hoodie"

Close up.

Dark corners. A park at night or an unfrequented restroom. Places sought out for secret rendevous' or cruising. Is it an effect of being pushed into the shadows by societies misguided condemnation or is there a rush an endophine high from the possibility of getting caught?

During the 'Day of Issue Sale' they are 20% off, that's $500 off the original. This special offer ends around midnight Midnight (EST) March 21, 2008. Framing is also available.

Madonna - "Hard Candy"

Madonna's next album, Hard Candy, unwraps April 29, 2008. Knowing that the 'ray of light' herself turns 50 this August is a bit hard to swallow.

Hard at work on my latest.

He may appear a bit overdressed compared to most of my guys, but you can be certain there will be much more to behold than this close-up is showing.

Ignorance & Hate in Oklahoma Legislature

Representative Sally Kern said that gays are a bigger threat to American society than terrorists or Islam. A secret recording has emerged of State Rep. Sally Kern speaking to a Republican group in January, where she equates both sexual orientation and religion with terrorism.

"I honestly think it's the biggest threat even that our nation has," the lawmaker said. "Even more so than terrorists or Islam, which I think is a big threat." Really? Bigger than Ignorance?

I'm not certain but I think Kern later taught the group how to make swastikas and cut eye holes into white sheets, while warning them of the dangers of sailing off the edge of the Earth.

Email: sallykern@okhouse.gov

And what will the Republican party do? Condemn her or do they find this acceptable?

The Title I Chose...

After sifting through hundreds of emails and even more name suggestions for my latest work, I've chosen "Northern Exposure". It was tough to pick one as their were many good names, many funny ones and some that were just...well odd. Thanks to everyone who participated it was interesting to see the various interpretations of the scene.

Cover Story

The very amiable, Pedro Rodriguez, contacted me a couple months ago asking if I was up for an interview and if I could provide some images of my artwork for an article in UPPS Magazine. So it was a nice surprise to find out this morning that they also put my work on the cover.

This is the just released March issue. UPPS is the free LGTB magazine of Gran Canaria (you can download the free pdf version -here-), so the interview and most of the magazine is in Spanish, though some parts are translated into English and German.

Name It, Win a Print!

I'm having a little trouble naming my new illustration. So I'm asking for some help. Visit my website (www.breyette.com) for details. If I pick a name from the entries (I reserve the right to name the piece myself) the first person to have sent the winning entry will receive a limted edition Gallery print (a $225 value). Submissions will be taken until Midnight ET Monday March 10th, and be announced Tuesday morning.

The original as well as limited edition Gallery and Studio prints are available for purchase. However, orders containing the new work will not be shipped until Tuesday, March 11th. If you place an order, and happen to be one of the three winners, you will of course not be charged. And of course the Day of Issue Sale is on through Midnight ET tomorrow, March 7th.

Arists (and the GLBT Community) BEWARE of 10Percent

My 3 year licensing agreement with 10percent.com / Village Lighthouse, expired on Nov 17, 2007 when I exercised my option not to renew, THANK GOD!

I've talked about my chronic problem with them, forever trying to get my royalty checks. Never did I get paid on time in the manner laid out in their contract. The deadline would pass, I would inform them they were in breach of the contract, which allowed them 30 days to rectify the situation, and then I got paid, a consistent pain in the ass. Since they only were using my work on a few cards and magnets and the percentage of compensation I got was minuscule (quarterly checks typically under $50), it wasn't that I was in desperate need of that money, I was irked by their utter lack of appreciation and complete disregard for the artists that supply them with their content.

Now that the contract has ended should I expect anything better from them? Of course not.

I've yet to receive payment for the quarter that ended September 30th. I notified them twice of the oversight, but this time never received a check or a response of any sort.

The terms of the contract allowed 10percent one year to sell off the remaining licensed stock. However since they breached the contract and failed to rectify in 30 days, according to THEIR contract they had only 30 days to stop selling items bearing my work, they have not.

I've informed them of this situation, letting them know that they are also violating copyright laws since they do not have permission to use my images on their products any longer. Still no reply... it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

"American Idol" Eyeful

Idol just got interesting.

According to the manager of Dicks Cabaret in Pheonix Arizona, American Idol contestant David Hernandez performed at the club up until September of 2007. Manager Gordy Bryan says, Hernandez stripped down to full nudity and performed lap dances for the clubs mostly male clientèle.

We'll have to wait and see whether FOX and American Idol will apply their puritanical views and demonize the human form, or will they allow Hernandez to continue in the singing contest.

On The Drawing Board: Snow on the Roof

I wanted a variety of looks for the group of guys enjoying a wintry hot tub soak in my latest illustration. For one of the guys I wanted to make him a little older. I've been drawing inspiration for my guy from men like George Clooney, who turns 47 this year.

We all know pop culture and gay culture over celebrates youth and quiver at the thought of someone 50. But I think that has a lot to do with our preconceived notion of what 50 is or looks like. With men taking better care of themselves these days there's no reason 50 can't be the new hot! No need to pretend you're 38, just redefine what it means to be 50.
